ABC Wednesday~ G is for

GIVEAWAY~

Have you ever had a "Giveaway" on your blog? Many blogs do at one point or another. The purpose? I think for most it is to get more of a following... or to keep people interested in what you have to say.
Most of the time the rules are pretty simple.
1. You are a follower or become the follower of the blog.
2. You leave a comment on the blog.
~sometimes~
3. You may have to put a link on your blog to link up to the "host" blog page.

Your giveaway does not have to be something expensive. It can be something you want to re-give or something home (hand) made or it can be store bought.

Sometimes stipulations are established to who can win the giveaway. This may depend on the weight and amount of things that are given away and what the cost would be to send to the winner.

If there is a "Host" blog giveaway, there is usually a blog button associated with the giveaway to link all the participating blogs together.

Here is an example of a giveaway. Feel free to look at it ... or not. Will I be participating? I would like too, but I'm not sure what I would "giveaway"

Sarah at Hope in Every Season is having a Spring Giveaway Jubilee starting on March 1.  You may either simply enter all the giveaways or further participate by actually giving something away yourself.  Why not join the fun?  The more people who participate in the giveaway part the merrier.

Oh, and by the way ... if you DO look at the giveaway, there is no way anyone but you knows you did, unless you participate ... and looking doesn't mean you have to participate ... it just means you are curious.

ABC Wednesday ~ D is for...

Let me start out by saying that for this round of  ABC Wednesday I am trying to be original. There is nothing wrong with multiple post of dogs or donuts. Everyone has there own perspective and I enjoy the views that are shared. I'm just trying to share a little bit of my world and hope that along the way I am sharing something ... maybe you never thought about or maybe you never knew about.

In saying that ~D is for Deer stand~

I have pretty much lived my whole life in the Mid-Western part of the U.S.. And while I have noticed theses structures in other states, there is such an over abundance of them where I live now. And, in this state, they come in all different shapes and sizes. If you buy a stand at a store, this is pretty much what you get.

I have seen this type once or twice, but not in this good of a condition. Now mind you, someone is sitting in this for several  hours, waiting for a deer to come along. (Could be even a day or two.)

When you are driving down the road and look off into wooded areas, you usually see structures similar to this.

But sometimes you come across some unique deer stands. These are some that hubby and I came across while snowmobiling this past week-end.
As you can see, this one has a pipe stack for some sort of heat. After all, you might be here a week waiting for your deer to wonder on by.

I had to show both sides of this one. You can rent it, if you don't have your own.

The person who owns this one must sleep here and doesn't mind the wind or snow.
I hope you enjoyed my letter ~D~ and that you learned something new.

Thanks Mrs Nesbitt! I'm really enjoying this round. For more posts on the letter ~D~ click HERE

ABC Wednesday ~C is for ...

CARICATURE ~

A portrait  that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person, animal or object to create an easily identifiable visual likeness.

This is a caricature of our 3 children that we received as a Christmas Gift this past year. From left to right it is youngest to oldest. We (hubby and I) absolutely love it!

The best part . . . this was not planned. Our 2 daughter's live near us. Our son lives about 130 miles away. Last Fall our oldest daughter's employer had a "Family Fun Day" at Six Flags Great America. Our 2 daughters, Granddaughter, and her friend all attended. The day was kind of cool and rainy, which occasionally kept some of the rides from running. While waiting for a rain shower to pass, our daughters decide to have a caricature done for our oldest daughter's home. When waiting in line our Granddaughter commented that she had seen her Uncle. Soon our son found the girls and they decided to have the caricature done for us. What a priceless gift!

ABC Wednesday ~ B~ is for . . .

 ~ Bone China ~

First let me say that I am dish-aholic ... yes ... it is sad, but very true. Over Christmas I pulled out some 8in., purple, glass plates that I bought several years ago. My husband commented that he thought he knew of every dish in our home. Why burst his bubble?

Anyway, I will say ... I do not have any fancy china place settings. I did not "register" a china pattern when we got married. Most of the dishes I have would probably be considered "pottery", not china.

However, I do have "bone china" and I'm sure most of you do too.  I have a few plates, but most of my "bone china" is in the form of TEA CUPS, which I collect.

What exactly is "Bone China"?  It is a soft-paste porcelain that is made of bone ash, feldspathic material, and kaolin (laymen's terms, soft rock minerals). Bone China has at least 30% bone ash, which is derived from animal (usually cattle) bone. It is know for it's whiteness, translucency, and despite it's fragile appearance,  strength and chip resistance.

Generally, Bone China is registered and it's trademark and pattern can be found under each piece. Over time these can become difficult to read. An easy way to see if it is an authentic piece, hold the piece up to a light. Place your hand behind it. You should be able to see your fingers through it.

Thanks to Mrs. Nesbitt and her team for this wonderful meme.

ABC WEDNESDAY ~ A is for ....

ABANDON~to cast away, leave, or desert,
as property or a child.

I am so glad I got out and got these photos yesterday. Today we are having a winter storm.

I have no idea what this structure was. It is small, but looks like at one time it could have been someone's home. You can see the fire stack at the far end. It is across from a large farm. Perhaps it was a home for migrant workers.

There is new buildings going up around this farm. Even though the house looks to be well kept, the barns behind need lots of work. What you can't see is there is a padlock on the door.

This is a large factory or warehouse along a railroad track. Perhaps at one time it was some sort of granary. You can see that many of the windows are boarded up.

I love ABC Wednesday! Thanks to Mrs.Nesbitt and her team for hosting it.

ABC Wednesday ~ U

U is for ~

Unicycle ~

About a month ago I took my first trip to New York City. It was a trip with my siblings who are spread out over the U.S. As in most "Big Cities", you can find "street performers" just about anywhere.
We can across this young man in Central Park. Needless to say ... we were very impressed. Looking back and thinking ... how sad it is that someone this young is out on the street trying to earn a little money to help his family!  But I understand the concept all too well. We are more willing to give this young man a buck or 2 than an adult. There are many people out there who need help. We need to remember that we are only responsible for our reasons for helping. The person we give to is responsible for how they use our gift.

P is for our pet, puppy, Piper who is part Pug ad part Boston Terrier.

T
This is what she looked like when we first got her

She has a "BIG" smile on her face after an afternoon of running around with my Grandson.

But pretty much ... this is how she spends her day.

Oh ... and can you tell ...
She REALLY HATES the cold weather here in Wisconsin.

Today, Mrs. Nesbitt herself is the host!

M is for ~
~Moon~

 THE HALF MOON SHOWS
A FACE OF PLAINTIVE SWEETNESS
The half moon shows a face of plaintive sweetness
    Ready and poised to wax or wane;
A fire of pale desire in incompleteness,
Tending to pleasure or to pain:-
Lo, while we gaze she rolleth on in fleetness
To perfect loss or perfect gain.
Half bitterness we know, we know half sweetness;
This world is all on wax, on wane:
When shall completeness round time's incompleteness,
    Fulfilling joy, fulfilling pain?-
Lo, while we ask, life rolleth on in fleetness
To finished loss or finished gain.

Moon
 the moon the moon
shining brightly in a pool of water
the moon the moon
glistening so brightly on the ground
the moon the moon
like a white shining marble floating in the sky
the moon the moon
what would we do without the moon

ABC Wednesday ~L

Isn't it funny how fast the days fly? Last week on this day I was sitting in warm sunshine on a catamaran, just off the coast of Key West. That all seems like a dream, as I am now back in the 50 degree temps of Wisconsin. But my heart and soul is aching for summer. The result ... the pick for my ABC Wednesday~L ...

L is for Lakes and Lazy Summer days ~

Last summer, my daughter, her friend, and I took a trip to Northern Wisconsin to Lake Minocqua.

The first evening we went to the Lake and took pictures of the sunset.

The next day we went to a smaller Lake with a beach area to relax and enjoy the sun.

ABC Wednesday ~ J &K

I'm a little early for ABC Wednesday. Again, I am posting 2 letters.
From last week ... the letter ~ J
J is for JOURNEY ~

jour·ney (jʉr′nÄ“)
noun pl. journeys -·neys
  1. the act or an instance of traveling from one place to another; trip
  2. any course or passage from one stage or experience to another

For the week  ... the letter ~K
K is for ~ kicking back

kicking back~ chilling, relaxing, chillaxing, relax, weekend holiday

I know I haven't been posting too much the past couple of weeks. I have been working and getting ready for a Journey.

It is Spring Break week!!

Yea!!!

We will be heading out early Monday morning. I am ready to be kicking back, soaking up sunshine and warmth! Joining me , my oldest daughter and her 2 children. We have been counting the days, although the grandkids have no idea where they are going, and know that once it is here, it will, just as quickly, be over.

Right now the 13 year old is not too happy. She will not be able to communicate with her school friends in any way shape or form. She is already a text addict and is totally bummed that her cell phone will not be traveling with her.

The 9 year old is in fact somewhat interested in what he thinks may happen. At least he won't be BORED at home.

A great adventure awaits them. We will take hundreds of pictures to help us remember this time together.

I just LOVE Spring Break!

Thanks Mrs. Nesbitt for hosting this fun meme.

ABC Wednesday ~ H & I

Ok ... I'm getting farther and farther behind. Work is CRAZY and time is zooming by. Of course, it always gets busier as the weather warms up (we still have patches of snow on the ground) and , at present moment, I'm feeling older than I really am.

ANYWAY ...
This is my ABC Wednesday post on Thursday.
Why today? Because I am 2 letters behind.

H is for HOCKEY~
                                               My Grandson's Hockey team  is
made up of boys ages 8 & 9.
For most, it is their second year of playing.

This is my Grandson. He has pretty much taken
to skating like a duck takes to water.

Here he is chasing the puck.
His position is Defenseman, usually left side

Being a Defenseman, you are pretty much in the back wings,
protecting the goal. This year he has made 1 goal.
Pretty good for the guy who is suppose to be in the background.

I is for IRIS~

Even though we have warmer weather, we are in "limbo land", somewhere between "a chance of snow"  and
"the threat of flooding" This is the time of year I like the least. Everything is a gray-brown color. How I long for that "perfect" Spring green. While out walking with the dogs on Tuesday, I did notice the tips of my Daffodils breaking through the ground.  What an encouraging sign. BUT ... I am long for tall flowers (really ... any flowers), in the colors of the rainbow.

I still have a few months before these beauties appear.
